INTRODUCTION janetstoneyoga.academyofmine.net/course/anatomy-of-emotion/start-course/ THE FIVE PHASES OF ENERGY1) five seasons of the year— spring, summer, fall, indian summer and winter; 2) five phases of creation— becoming, growing, ripening, harvesting, and perishing (or becoming dormant); 3) five natural elements— wood, fire, earth, metal, and water; and 4) five pairs of internal organs in the body— liver/gallbladder, heart/small intestine, spleen/stomach, lungs/ large intestine, and kidneys/bladder. Wood burns to create Fire Fire creates ash (Earth) From Earth we extract Metal Metal can be heated to create liquid (Water) Water poured on a seedling grows into Wood Wood is controlled by Metal and controls Earth Earth is controlled by Wood and controls Water Water is controlled by Earth and controls Fire Fire is controlled by Water and controls Metal Metal is controlled by Fire and controls Wood ELEMENTS AND MERIDIANSYin meridians relate to inner aspects of the body and correspond with the deeper organs: heart, lungs, liver, spleen, and kidney. The yang channels relate to the outer aspects and network the more hollow organs: the intestines, bladder, and gallbladder. The yin meridians can be thought of as relating to the more inner, emotional, and spiritual aspects and the yang to the more physical and mundane. The ancients noticed that just as rivers flow through the countryside, irrigating fields and accumulating in pools or watering holes, energy flows between the organs of the body along meridians and accumulates in points. In a modern city the meridians are the streets, the points are the intersections, junctions, and places of access, and the organs are the locations around them. The yin meridians run along the front of the body from bottom to top (from the ground to the body to the sky). The yang meridians—with one exception—run along the back of the body from top to bottom (from sky to the body to the earth).

What regrets or grudges are you bitter about? Where do you feel these holdings in your body? Bitter is the flavor that balances the fire element. The Fire element represents relationships, expression of love, sexuality and connection with other people. Assess your relationships in your life, are they healthy? Is there reciprocity? Are there generative and supportive qualities in these relationships? Look and see if some relationships are actually draining and unhealthy, can you prune these out of your life?
